There's a moment in Wakanda forever I think about a lot. An indigenous child returns to the

land of his ancestors and finds his people enslaved by Spanish colonizers. One of these colonizers

looks to the child and asks, Who is this boy?

The answer, no more.

The boy rises off the ground,

levitating as the score rises with him. Watching the scene for the first time

I said some words I don't feel comfortable repeating on this podcast

but the feeling was transcended

here was a child one of the most broken people as Namor would say

literally rising above his condition.

I'm a journalist and author who spent a few years writing the Black Panther comic book.

On this show, I want to better understand what I felt at that moment,

watching that boy transcend.

I want to understand how director and co-writer Ryan Cougla and his crew discovered that feeling,

how they transmitted it, how they made me feel like the boy was me, and I was transcending too.

For this movie, it was like two completely different worlds.

Tolokan and then Wakanda, so it was two completely different sounds.

Just as I wanted a young black girl or boy throughout the diaspora to look at the first

Black Panther and feel a sense of pride, I wanted the same for any child of Mexico,
