Bullseye with Jesse Thorne is a production of maximum fun dotorg and is distributed by NPR. It's Molesai. I'm Jesse Thorne. My first guest this week is stand-up comedian Miss Pat. Pat has had an extraordinarily difficult

path to success. She was a victim of child sexual abuse. She was a mother at 14. She was incarcerated.

And I mean to go from those kinds of circumstances to where she is today,

a national headliner with her own TV show and movie credits. I mean I just I can't

imagine doing it could you? But to talk about Miss Pat just in terms of her life story, it sells her comedy short.

She is a brilliant stand-up. Direct, clever, raw. And with the skills to take you into a story about getting bored while her granddaughter talks, then chase it with a story about surviving getting shot and then finish with something about menopause.

I'd play you some, but this is NPR and the comedy is raw.

Pat, as I said before, also has her own television show,

the Miss Pat show just kicked off its fourth season on

B.E.T. Plus, it has been nominated for two Emmys. On it, Miss Pat plays a fictionalized

version of herself. Her character is a stand-up comic, just like Pat.

She's also a mother of four like Pat.

Her family has moved from their hometown of Atlanta

to a conservative small town in Indiana. In this clip Pat is heading back to

Indiana after a long tour. She makes some small talk with the person sitting next

to her on the plane. Head at home? Yep, back to Plainfield, Indiana.

Oh, that's a nice city.
