I know that in the United States at least there is like a giant emphasis on like being really happy.

I don't feel like that's true in every culture, but there's definitely an emphasis on like optimism and

positive thinking which I think has the opposite effect for a lot of people

because a lot of time life is pretty crappy. It gets better because it has to get better.
