Summary

The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 4:

  • Comedian Jocelyn Chia joins The Rich Zeoli Show to talk about how she was recently “canceled” for a joke she made during a stand-up show earlier this month. In her recent Newsweek op-ed, Jocelyn writes: “On June 5, the Comedy Cellar posted a clip from a show I had done in which I depicted Malaysia as the ex who broke up with Singapore—the country I grew up in—and Singapore was now having a ‘glow-up.’ The clip was performing very well, but when I posted the same one on my social media on Tuesday morning, things started to take a nasty turn…By Tuesday night, I was getting calls, messages, and emails from Malaysians cursing me out, issuing threats, and demanding an apology…By Thursday, the Singapore Foreign Minister had apologized to Malaysia for my joke.” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.newsweek.com/comedian-canceled-joke-1809220
  • In reaction to the Supreme Court’s decision in Students for Fair Admissions, NAACP President Derrick Johnson said, “the worst thing about affirmative action is that it created Clarence Thomas.”
  • The fight between billionaires Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg appears to be cancelled. No one wants to see the new Indiana Jones movie. PLUS, President Joe Biden has an unforgettable appearance on MSNBC with Nicole Wallace.

Comedy is comedy. We got to stand up to woke trying to make comedy dead. Welcome back to the show. Glad you're here. Our fourth and final hour on Talk Radio 1210 W-P-H-T on Twitter at Rich Zeeoli. So last week, my buddy Jimmy Fala called me up. He said, listen, I'm hosting Fox Saturday Night. Fox News Saturday Night. Once on the panel, Tudor Dixon and Comedy's Bad Girl, Jocelyn Chee and she's here right now live with me. Jocelyn, how are you?

1:00.0

Great to see you and I am loving my new nickname, Comedy's Bad Girl. You are Comedy's Bad Girl. You have kicked off the entire continent of Asia. Well done. Thank you. Thank you. I'm very proud of myself. My parents are too. I was fond of you on the panel with you. I wanted to talk to you because, really, truly, I mean, what happened here is that you told some jokes. You had people come after you. They wanted you to apologize. You said, hell no, I'm not apologizing.

1:30.0

That's heroic. So good work. Thank you. How was the story? What happened? So what happened was I, well, the comedy style, like you posted it, where I was doing my comedy show it. I've been doing this joke for over a year now. And it was so good. That was actually my closing joke for a good nine months before I got a newer closer. And we put a clip up doing well when the seller put it up for a day. And the next day when I posted on my socials, somehow the algorithms send it to Malaysia.

And Malaysians heard about it and saw it. And now the entire country saw the clip. And they have just been. They went wild. They took the seller down by having its website. They rebuked it with 4,000 one star reviews. The seller website. The seller ranking went from 4.7 stars to 2.8 because of these rebuked bombs. They went through my Instagram. And they harass every single club that I've ever worked with for the past five years. If they're having a hard time.

2:30.0

I don't know how old my Instagram is. And call them out. And then keep booking jobs. And we're going to come and mess up your show. Of course, I've been personally harassed too with your threats. And you know, they're calling me from Malaysia. I mean, thanks goodness. I can recognize the Malaysian area codes. I just locked out every single Malaysian number. And then what else is they do? Oh, they try to dox my parents and harass them too.

2:59.0

And the same time they do great. You're giving me all this kind of shit. And at the same time, they were exciting and apology. Really? You really think I'm going to want to apologize after all you've done. Thank you.

3:14.0

Well, you know, our buddy, Chris, friend over the Delco Times, he wrote a piece about, they were a very journal. Oh, you know, I do know Chris. Yeah, and don't worry about your fantastic. They wrote a piece about you. And they said, the real problem here is that people expect a comedian to apologize in this day and age. Come on already.

3:34.0

Yeah. And I mean, you've been doing this in America for a long time, but in Asia. Oh, my God. I mean, I was, I nearly cute when I when I read some of the apology, apology comedians have given to Malaysia because it's a lot of passage for anything.

3:51.0

For any thing or for an comedian to piss off Malaysia, right? So, yeah. Yeah.

3:58.0

Yeah, this is the right of passage. I'm just like, I knew with members of the club. So the earliest comedian had done a joke about Malaysia. And literally when I read the apology that he wrote, it was so pathetic. He was like, you know, I, I unreservantly apologize to all that I offended and hurt with my remarks.

4:18.0

And it was the fight I thought was just so sad. He goes, I sincerely beg for your forgiveness. Your begging for forgiveness over a joke that is crazy.

4:30.0

So I'm like, I'm not going to be begging you guys as forgiveness. Are you kidding me?

4:35.0

Jocelyn, today the United States Supreme Court said you can't discriminate against Asians anymore. You can't be racist towards Asians. That's, that's not real good for you.

4:45.0

Well, but there's still a lot of Asian on Asian hate going on. I'm like, okay, so why people can't discriminate against us, but Malay can discriminate against Chinese people apparently.

4:55.0

I guess. Yeah.

4:57.0

Now, are you going to talk about how there's a racial component to the anger against me?

5:03.0

Is there. I don't know for sure, but I'm serious about this. I mean, you want some sort of like a, like a death list if China or Malaysia, I mean, would they, if they got you in their clutches, would you be sent to a gulag or something?

5:14.0

You know, she's an interesting thing, Rich. So Malaysian lawyers have actually come out to speak about the legalities of it.

5:22.0

And they say Malaysia can't actually do anything to me unless they change the law.

5:27.0

So Malaysia might rewrite their laws just so they can have jurisdiction over a foreign national committing a very low, great crime, right?

5:36.0

The reason why they didn't have jurisdiction on what I'm understanding from the Malaysian lawyers is that it's a, is a petty crime, right?
