Summary

November 21-27

Jonah is much more than a fish story, but the story of a man who is cast down into a boat, down into the hull of the boat, down into a big fish, and at last, covered in seaweed in the utter darkness is rescued. We may see ourselves here when life bears down on us, and we know who the ultimate rescuer is.

We're Scott and Maureen Proctor and today we're going to talk about those magnificent and

0:26.9

very interesting books, Jonah and Micah. In a lesson called, He Delighteth in Mercy. And we have with us

0:34.0

today one of our favorite guests who we love to have with us and that's Patrick Dane. Patrick is one of

0:40.4

our great friends and he is an institute teacher up in Logan at Utah State University. He has taught

0:48.2

many times at Education Week and in many diverse locations. He's a master teacher. He loves the

0:55.2

scriptures and we love working with him and discussing these things with him. So again welcome

1:01.4

Patrick to this podcast this week. Thank you very much. Grateful to be here. Thank you. Before we

1:08.1

launch into our podcast though, this is the famous Jonah and the Well story which we have known that much

1:14.2

of it really well since we've been children. We've had seen lots of illustrations of it and so it

1:20.4

makes wonder about this well experience. And Scott, we had our own well experience in Oman.

1:28.4

We did. We were spending some time. In fact, it is our very first time to Oman to this

1:34.1

best candidate for where Nephi built the ship and it's in this very remote location and we had

1:39.2

these young boys who were going to pick us up after we'd been there for a couple of days and they

1:44.2

picked us up in a little fishing boat that was maybe 14 or 16 feet long and and so we were

1:51.8

we'd been through so much to that point. We'd been hot. It was 115 degrees. We'd been covered with

1:57.9

ticks. We had been through so many experiences and we were so tired and thirsty and the boys came

2:05.2

and picked us up and as we're going back out and you have to know you have to go about 10 to 12

2:10.1

kilometers by sea to get to one of the fishing villages where you can access your car so that

2:15.7

you can go back to the main area of civilization. So that particular day these boys picked us up

2:22.2

and we're heading back on the Arabian Sea. It's a beautiful, beautiful sea and as we're heading back,

2:28.2

we're just skimming along the water and all of a sudden the boys cut the motor and we look back
