Dan and Nick dive into the NFL combine by breaking down the defensive side of the ball with individual breakdowns of every position, including an extensive focus on cornerback and several prospects who are in play for the Giants with their first-round pick at 25 overall. Before that, they work through the recent updates on Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley contract negotiations, why the franchise tag is now apparently a possibility for Barkley and what that means, plus more. I'm Dan Schneier.

And if you're like us, that means you're probably ridiculously nerdy when it comes to this whole football thing.

0:18.4

And you just spent your weekend watching the NFL combine.

0:55.7

You had it on in the background. Listen, Nick, my favorite parts about the combine is and will always be getting little nuggets from Daniel Jeremiah about his scouting grades because he doesn't necessarily post that much online. Like he'll put out his top 50 and he'll give a little blurb about those 50 players. You can find some nuggets on his Twitter from time to time. But like the actual most you're going to get from Daniel Jeremiah is during the combine because he drops nuggets when he's watching a player do a drill or watching the player run the 40. He talks about his scouting evaluation of these players. And you know me. I'm a big Jeremiah fan. I believe he's one of the best in the business. So I take almost everything he says is gospel.

And he's not going to listen.

No one hits these 100%. The NFL GMs get this wrong. But I love to hear those nuggets, Nick. So when I have it on, that's what I'm paying attention to. That's what I'm looking out for. And I watch most of the combine this weekend. And I planned Saturday, but luckily NFL network, you're able to tape it.

And so I rewatched yesterday's coverage in between today's coverage. So had a good chance to watch it all and get caught up a little bit on what's going on with these NFL draft prospects. I mean, we're going to take a little break from this, Nick, as we're about to it free agency for like this next two weeks span, but it's just interesting to see the different buzz and the different players. And today we're going to talk a little bit about the NFL combine. We're going to focus on the defensive players today. In addition to starting this podcast off, talking about the Daniel Jones and Saquan-Barkley contract updates. And then tomorrow, we're going to dive into the offense side of the ball. And just as a spoiler, there's a lot more fun stuff to talk about outside of the ball. Yeah, I'm excited to dive into the offensive side of the football. Dan, I got to say, man, looks like you just took a shower. You're looking fresh. You're looking clean. Your hair is kind of down a little bit. It's not as poofy. You're up in the air. It's a good look for you. Thank you, bud. Yeah, I did just take a shower. I a shower i've been back in the gym lately so you know after a nice little workout in a schvitz as they call it you what a schvitz is no i do not i'm trying to wonder if that was something on curb your enthusiasm was a schiff something on curb it's not okay it's like a yiddish word um every A new thing I've been working into my gym sessions, Nick, has been, we have a sauna at the gym I go to.

2:17.8

So I've been trying to work 20 to 30 minutes in the sauna post workout, a schvitz, if you will, just sweat it all out. And it's really helping my sleep. You know, I've had some sleep problems in the past. And so I'm a big proponent for those who are, you know, questioning it.

2:19.6

Go to the sauna after your workout.

2:20.7

Spent a little time in there.

3:25.1

Big sauna guys over here. And if you want refreshing drink and no, this is not an ad read, but I wanted to see, Dan, if you actually have tried this flavor of Waterloo, orange vanilla. No, I haven't tried that. That could be interesting. I'll be honestly, I would, I don't want to burst your bubble on it. Anytime you work vanilla into a salsa flavor, I start to worry about artificial stuff a little bit more. Maybe check those ingredients on the back. I've recently followed this Instagram. No, it just says purified carbonated water and natural flavors. Okay. I don't know where you get natural vanilla from, but maybe somehow they can figure it out. But if you ever heard of the wake up and read the labels account on Instagram, somebody sent it to me and now I'm like inundated with all this bad stuff the U.S. is selling us and we're poisoning our bodies with. But let's talk about the football. That's what the people are here for.

3:22.0

We don't need to talk about salsa, which weirdly enough we're obsessed with. And we drink a lot of it. But let's talk about football. Let's start with the two most important things of the Giants right now. They're non-combin related. They're Daniel Jones. They're Sequin Barclay. they're the free agents to be.

3:24.0

And so we got some updates this weekend.

3:41.8

The first being no contract was signed. You know, there was discussion that Daniel Jones and the

3:46.9

Giants were coming closer to terms. Maybe a deal would be done at the combine by the end of the

3:52.3

combine. Well, what we heard today was Daniel Jones's agents, his side, left the combine, no deal in place.

4:00.2

Now, from what we heard also today, he's still the priority.
