We'll be picking up here in St. Paul's Epistle to the Colossians chapter 3 verse 1.

As usual, I won't go through the whole introduction again because by the time people are listening to this, they will have been able to listen to the

introduction on the first Bible study on Colossians.

But to get us kind of caught up a little bit on what St. Paul's been talking about

tonight is that St. Paul's been talking about tonight is that St. Paul, we talked about how in the long

introduction, how there's a lot of people spend a lot of time trying to identify a particular

quote unquote, Colossian heresy or some group based on what's called mirror reading, right?

You look at what St. Paul is preaching against and then you say, well, okay, so they believed

X, Y, Z. And then people tie themselves in knots to try and get X, Y, Z to be a coherent group

or an actual historical group.

And we talked about how really there's no reason to suspect that there's just one particular

group that St. Paul is talking about.

He doesn't ever talk about it as a group.

He talks about different beliefs.

So we saw last time, for example, that he talked about both things that seemed to apply

mostly to them as former pagans and sort of the pagan pursuit of wisdom and mysteries and mystery

cults and that kind of thing.
