0:33.6	So today we return to the Outward Bound series to look at colonizing black holes.
0:40.2	We talk fairly often on this channel about advanced civilizations using black holes in various
0:45.7	ways, but we're usually talking either about artificial micro black holes that emit
0:51.4	hockey radiation and need to be fed constantly so they don't
0:55.0	disappear, or about civilizations so far forward in time that black holes would be prevalent,
1:01.7	while what we call stars would be ancient history, part of a brief, bright era when
1:07.0	the universe was still settling down from the Big Bang.
1:11.0	But today we are going to talk about how and why black holes might become the preferred
1:16.0	place for much nearer future civilizations to colonize, even while stars still burn and
1:22.9	uninhabited planets are abundant.
1:25.9	In a lot of science fiction, a ship stumbling across a black hole is caused for panic, but
1:31.7	in reality the crew would probably be popping the corks on the champagne because that's
1:36.9	some very valuable real estate they just found.
1:40.8	To understand why, let's talk briefly about what our descendants would be looking for
1:45.6	in a place to colonize.
