There are plenty questions out there about how the college football playoff committee will select the at-large bids in the first year of the 12-team playoff.

But one of the most fascinating questions and scenarios to me is how are they going to treat teams that lose the conference championship game?

Let me set the scene for you.

If a 10-2 team loses in the conference championship game and they wind up 10-3,

will they be punished when compared to a 10-2 team that didn't make the conference championship game when it comes to who's going to be selected in the playoff?

Now, there is a little nuance here. I personally believe that if the 10 and 3 team did not play that 10 and 2 team or they beat them during the regular season, then they shouldn't be punished and should be selected over them.

There's no way you can penalize a team for having to play an extra game against a quality opponent because you are one of the two best teams in that

league. This is a real-life scenario that I think has a greater than 50% chance to happen. We don't

really know how the committee will handle this because with so many at-large bids available this

year, there's no precedent for it. Then there is a scenario in which we saw play out last year.

What happens if that 10 and three teams quarterback gets hurt during the conference championship game?

Will that be the backbreaker like it was for Florida State last year who didn't actually lose a game?

We do have precedent for that.

Either way, there are even more crazy scenarios out there.
