Ugh. I love college athletics.

And while I appreciate everyone's chance to get what they can in America, that isn't really what college is about. College is education and preparation. It's paying dues. It's learning to be

an adult. It's learning your craft and getting ready to be the best you can.

In this regard, getting better at a sport is really no different than studying the law to be an attorney.

Good things come in time. I like the college model. I believe the pros should take any 18-year-old

they want and don't let them go to college if you think they're ready to be a pro. But going to

college free, getting hundreds of thousands of dollars and benefits, even if you don't play, and getting cold cash in your pocket, seems like a great deal to me. Just ask another student on campus what they think. But where we're headed now is a mystery. I'm an optimist by nature, but I'm not optimistic about the future of college athletics.
