Summary

Today we start our program with another black history segment. Our hero today is William Carney. Later in the program we have Stanley Kurtz on to talk to us about the College Board’s addition of advance placement classes such as African American Studies, which are a facade for leftist indoctrination. The good news in this is that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is putting his foot down and saying enough!

0:19.3	perspective. But before we take on a hot topic of the day, we're going back to our heroes
0:23.6	of history. We've been talking about them all month and we'll continue throughout February.
0:27.2	By the way, I'm Rick Greenberg, his constitution coach and Tim Barton and David Barton are going
0:31.0	to share about one of our heroes of history. Tim, who are we talking about today?
0:35.8	This one is Sergeant William Carney and he was a Medal of Honor recipient. Now we talked last
0:41.0	week about another Medal of Honor recipient. We talked about how in the course of American history,
0:46.8	there's been approximately 57 million Americans involved in the US military. Among those,
0:53.5	only about 3500 have ever been recipients of the Medal of Honor. And so you're talking about
0:59.8	just a tiny percentage of people who have ever been awarded something that is this significant,
1:07.2	this prestigious and it really is recognizing people that did something incredibly courageous
1:12.5	and heroic that sets them in a separate category. And Sergeant William Carney, he was born in 1840.
1:19.6	He was born actually in slavery in Virginia. His father was able to escape on the underground
1:24.2	railroad, then raise money and was able to purchase and bring the whole family out of slavery.
1:28.8	So William Carney is free, he begins actually studying to become a Christian minister,
1:33.9	the Civil War breaks out. So it changes everybody's plans, life is different. When the emancipation
1:38.8	proclamation comes out in 1863, there have been a lot of abolitionists, a lot of black leaders
1:44.8	telling Abraham Lincoln, you need to allow black soldiers or black individuals to join
1:51.2	and be part of the military to be soldiers. And William Carney is one of those first guys that
1:55.6	signs up. He's actually part of Morgan's guards, which later became company C in the mass,
2:01.0	that choose its 54th regimen, which was not coincidentally, the movie featured in the old 1989 film,
