Summary

In this episode of The Choose Hard Podcast, we’re diving into the cold—literally. I explore the transformative benefits of cold plunging and cold water immersion, focusing on how it impacts muscle growth, strength gains, overall health, and mental resilience.

To back it up with science, I review 5 different research studies that break down the 4 following benefits:

  1. How cold immersion influences muscle growth and recovery.

  2. The effects of cold exposure on strength development and performance.

  3. The mental health benefits; which include stress resilience, mood regulation, neurotransmitter production, and neurodegenerative disease prevention.

For each benefit, I simplify the research and provide practical takeaways to help you integrate cold exposure into your routine. Whether you're chasing fitness goals, looking for a mental edge, or aiming to improve your health, this episode delivers evidence-based insights you can act on. Tune in and discover why cold water immersion might just be the best, OR potentially the worst, tool for your body and mind!

Normally, I do research review podcast, and it is just a standalone podcast.

0:39.1

I pick a few studies or one study and I dive in. We spend an hour and we go through it. However,

0:44.2

when I started gathering research for the studies I wanted to cover in this, I guess, months or

0:51.8

section season, whatever you want to call it, this time of me doing a research review,

0:55.9

I realized that there was just, there was just too much to be said. There was just so much more research than I realized on some of these topics.

And if you listen to the last episode, which was on sauna and heat exposure, I ended up pulling out actually like five or six studies. I narrowed it down to

1:13.0

three. One of them was a meta-analysis and I categorized it into sections. And the sections

1:17.6

were health, like general health and overall health, body composition, so muscle mass, fat loss,

1:23.0

that kind of thing. And then stressed management or relief recovery. If you didn't listen to that, definitely make sure you go back and listen that after this

episode.

1:30.8

It does not matter which one you choose first, but I had way more to say than I realized I was

going to say.

1:37.8

So this is part two because I still had a list of studies to cover.
