It's been almost 30 years since Trudy Appleby disappeared,

and now a man has been charged in her murder.

The 11-year-old was last seen August 21st, 1996, near her home in Moline, Illinois.

She'd asked to go swimming with a friend. Her dad said no, but allegedly she went anyway and was last seen getting into a gray vehicle with a man.

Last week, a Henry County grand jury indicted 50-year-old Jameson Fisher on three

counts of first-degree murder and one count of concealment of a homicidal death. He's accused of

kidnapping and strangling Trudy and covering it up. Her body was never found. In 2017, police identified

Fisher's longtime friend William Ed Smith as a person of interest with a witness saying he was driving the gray car. His son-in-law and registered sex offender, David Whipple, was named a suspect in 2020. Smith and Whipple both died, leaving Fisher the only person of interest still alive.
