Summary

Cup of Justice co-hosts Mandy Matney, Liz Farrell and Eric Bland — talk about Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker’s controversial convocation speech, in which he essentially told women graduates that they have been told a “diabolical lie” about pursuing an existence beyond being wives and mothers. These comments and those that support them add context to the Mica Miler case out of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and shows the challenges of divorcing but also the dangers of divorce laws. Mandy, Liz and Eric talk about all the ways women in abusive marriages are pummeled by the law — and the system. Premium Members get an extended conversation about Taylor Swift, the NFL and the pressure that still exists to be the kind of woman Harrison Butker says women should be. Let’s get into it... Not only because we plan to discuss all the things we keep uncovering on the True Sunlight

Ugh, Harrison Butler.

0:30.8

I had a lot to say about him and his horribly misguided and dangerous opinions on not just women, but people in the LGBTQ community.

We think we have come so far but then someone like this guy pops off and it has me

0:46.7

asking what year are we really in? Premium members will get an extended and extra spicy version of this conversation.

In addition to the Butker speech, we had a really important discussion about divorce, specifically in South Carolina, where Micah Miller lived before

her death last month.

1:07.5

Micah was trying to divorce her past her husband, which is a dangerous enough time for women on its own.

But divorce laws make it worse for women.

The laws make it harder for a person in the relationship

with the least amount of money and power.

So it is clear to me that this has played a huge role in what was already a huge uphill battle

for Micah when you consider the pressure she must have felt from the church.

1:36.3

As you know from last week's true sunlight I spoke with Charlotte Corn who is one of Micah's best friends.

1:42.8

Charlotte said something that is really important.

1:45.5

Micah was a beloved member at her husband's church.

1:49.5

And her husband, J.P. had already experienced the repercussions of what happens when he, the pastor, goes through

a divorce. When his last marriage broke up, he claims that he lost a lot of members and it was quite a setback for him.

Well as Charlotte pointed out Micah's decision to leave JP likely would have a significant financial impact on the church as it was
