Welcome to the Busted Open Podcast, along with Justin Labar. I'm Jonathan Hood. And on today's show, we discuss the main event of Crown Jewel, Cody Rhodes against Gunther.

This is the Busted Open podcast. The main event is Gunther against Cody Rhodes. I told you weeks leading into this, Justin, that as a matchup that I didn't necessarily need at this point in time,

you got the Universal Champion against the World Heavyweight Champion.

But it's always through the, I guess through time as wrestling fans, you always wonder,

this champion against just champion, who would win?

I know growing up in the Territory Days, I always thought Rick Flair against Hulk Hogan, what would that be like in their prime? Nick Bockewinkle against Rick Flair, Jerry

Lawler against Hulk Hogan, all that stuff. I always wondered about that as a kid. These are

different champions. What would happen? Well, in this situation, you have two guys leading

their brands, Ron Smackdown, and they're in the ring

together, Cody against Gunther. And boy, I tell you what, this match delivered, it really did.

And we can't be surprised. Just wasn't sure what the finish was going to be.

Yeah, I, you know, what you just said, and I love that Cody worked it into a promo on the build

here, but he did that same thing. He walked through the different eras and, you know, imagine, you know, you just said and I love that Cody worked it into a promo on the build here but we did that same thing you walked through the different eras and then you imagine you know the different

champions of the different promotions and again I like this identity that gives this show

yeah I mean look obviously first off out in front here out front and center this is a really

good match these two couldn't have a bad match.

You couldn't task them. Hey, go out there and stink up to. But they could. They don't know how to.

They just don't know how to. So fun to watch them. First off, first time in a singles match.

I love the history. I love the history that Michael Cole does note how Cody's eliminated

Goonther twice in the Rumble. So that is their only history.

They never had a one-on-one match.

So that's all fun.
