announcement this past week challenging many of the provisions of Georgia's

recently enacted voter suppression law. The lawsuit doesn't challenge the

entire bill. Only key provisions, namely provisions making it harder to cast an

absentee ballot, the provisions that disenfranchise many voters who cast a

ballot in the wrong precinct, as well as the law's provision prohibiting pro-democracy groups

from distributing food and water to voters in long lines to cast a ballot.

The legal theory is actually pretty clear.

Black voters disproportionately use absentee ballots in 2020. We disproportionately tend to vote at the wrong

precincts often because they're moved or closed more frequently in our

communities and were more transient and our precincts tend to have long lines so water and line

provision was clearly designed to target us. This is a good thing. We finally

1:30.3

have a DOJ that's doing his job and when you listen to the episode today you will understand why that's so important.

The case is a strong one on the merits. The problem, there's a lot of these cases is that this case has been assigned to Judge

J.P. Bully, a Trump appointee, and he will likely side with the state of Georgia.

And a case will likely be appealed to the 11th Circuit.
