Summary

John Eldredge asks whether 30 is too young to be a lead pastor (and what to do if you're in your 20s or 30s and leading a large church).

He also talks about finding spiritual authority and the stages every man goes through in life, from warrior to king to sage.

Hey, before we dive into today's episode, we are going to do one of the monthly updates

0:10.9

that I'm doing this year with David Kinneman, the CEO of the Barna Group, State of the Church.

0:16.4

David, we're getting fresh data every single month.

0:19.0

So just a quick update on what you're working on right now.

0:22.1

So tell us, you are asking the question that the Barner Group has asked for years, but you have a new twist on it this time around.

0:29.2

We do, yeah. So we have some really, really good news to prepare for you today to talk to you about.

0:35.3

And it is the percentage of Americans who say they have

0:38.0

or other things, there's a sense in which people turn to places of deeper meaning. And what we're

1:18.7

finding now, so this is some of the best news that we have been able to release in years, but there

1:24.6

is real signs of renewal across our society. And currently, it is at 66%

1:31.2

of Americans who say they've made a personal commitment to Christ that's still important in their

1:35.5

life. Now, you'll note that is lower than it was when I just mentioned at 77% back in 2009. And

1:41.3

it was in the 70s for a lot of, sort of from 2004 and 2005 through, it looks about

1:49.6

2011. But during the pandemic, in 2021, and sort of like even 2019, it was down into the 50s,
