Welcome to Closing Bell. I'm Scott Wotner live from Post Nine here at the New York Stock Exchange,

the center of the action right now. This make a break hour beginning with the September

start for stocks, not a good one as the major averages remain under pressure here in this final stretch.

Let's show you the score card here with 60 minutes to go in regulation.

Dow's down by more than 600 points right now, but the big story today is at the bottom

of the list of the majors.

It's tech, it's the NASDAQ down 3%.

Invidia, several other semiconductor names are trading sharply lower today.

And the other mega cap names are as well and that's where the big laggards are today.

Look at Alphabets down 3.5 percent, apples down 3.

If there's any strength today and you almost put that in quotes, it's in defensive areas of the market.

It's staples, it's health care and utilities and that's just the kind of day this has been.

It does take us to our talk of the tape, the ugly beginning to fall trading and what it might mean

for where stocks can go from here.
