Welcome to a preview of season 30. I'm here with our executive producer Graham Ched, and we're going to play you some

clips and introduce you a few of the fascinating people I'll be having conversations with in the

next few weeks. And they are fascinating, wouldn't you say, Graham? Well, yes, but I wouldn't exactly say

they're all people. Well, that's true. In fact, there's a danger in thinking they are people, which is becoming

easier and easier to do. I'm talking about bots in artificial intelligence in general.

AI is almost everywhere now. It's even beginning to make decisions for us. We want it to be a

helpful tool, but we don't want it to take over our lives.

I got to wondering how much you could use AI in making a podcast and not lose human control.

First, we had AI search through the more than 350 shows we've done to hear experts talking

about the pros and cons of AI.

Then we put them together as a kind of virtual panel discussion.

But it wasn't long before the dangers of AI started to be discussed.

Some people were focused on the tremendous benefits that would come in medicine and education,

but others thought there was an actual existential threat to humanity because we don't understand well enough how AI works.

So we decided to ask the bots themselves. Here's a clip from the episode.

We couldn't get bots to deal directly with some of the more extreme human concerns.

So we tried a different approach.

We asked Chat GPT to help us come up with a script for a movie.

The storyline would be one in which AI takes over the world.

The bot enthusiastically agreed to collaborate and started
