Summary

The Temple, for Old Testament Jews, was everything. But St. Paul, who lived for many years in Jerusalem and knew the rituals of the Temple very well, told the Corinthians that their bodies were temples of the Holy Spirit. The account of Jesus cleansing the Temple in this week’s Gospel, brought together with Paul's insight, provides us with with a wonderful Lenten meditation. Let Jesus swing that whip of cords around the Temple of your body; it’s time for a spring cleaning of the soul!

1:39.4

remind the nation constantly that the temple and his rituals have been

1:45.1

perverted, that corruption is crept into this place of prayer, that false gods

1:50.8

are even sometimes worshiped there. So see that tension runs right through the

1:56.0

Old Testament. How wonderful, how beautiful the temple is and how compromised.

2:01.6

And this is furthermore why one of the great messianic expectations was that the

anointed one, the Mashiach, the Christos when he came, would cleanse and purify
