In the news this week on the show we'll be finding out how eating glycerol could lead to a longer life,

but only if you're a yeast.

We'll be discovering the answer to the mystery of the giant shark.

We'll be discovering how scientists are probing the secrets of space and how gut

bacteria could be the key to beating malaria. That's not all, Helen. Thanks,

Kat. Also this week we'll be plunging into my most favorite environment and taking a look at the

water we'll be hearing about a big cleanup in the river cam and learning about

the importance of digging new ponds from the lovely gardener Alan Titchmart.

It is so simple you can do it in an afternoon, make a small pond, take charge of it, make it clean,

you think, well, hang on a minute, how am I going to introduce all that wildlife to it? You don't have to. It will come.

The most astonishing thing is that all that wildlife finds you of its own accord.

And doesn't he just make it sound gorgeous? And even though all that wildlife will find its own way to your pond,

sometimes these visitors can be unwelcome.

So also on the show this week we'll be finding out about alien invaders that are attacking our waterways.

Sounds scary and a bit like the day of the triffids all over again.
