Today on the exam room. We had like a peach tree and apricot tree so we had fruit trees. My mom did like tomatoes, zucinies, cucumbers, strawberries, she did squash. Like my mom and my best friend's dad in the 80s were growing

kale in their garden and making kale smoothies like in the 80s you know and I remember them talking about it and they're like you know these

nutrients are so important and I was like cake like you know but I thought everybody knew about it right so a lot of the

fruits and veggies she grew and then we belong to a food co-op that my mom helped start with her friends to get healthy food in the little town where I grew up.

And so she would buy a big 25 pound bag of rice and 10 pound bag of black beans and

Pinto beans and you know basically just whole plant foods so then put together meals

with the veggies that she was growing.

So it was basic and it was really healthy and, you know, most importantly for me, she

taught me how to do all of that stuff.

Like I was in the little outside kitchen with her from the time I was little, you know, stirring the rice and cooking the pinto beans and putting up the potatoes. Welcome to the exam room podcast brought to you by the Physicians Committee.
