And today we're going back to when the Veritas Forum in Cambridge invited Christian philosopher

Keith Ward and atheist philosopher Arif Armed to present the reasons for their different world views.

I hosted the discussion between these two thinkers in front of an audience of Cambridge students

who asked their own questions to truly memorable evening. So without further ado, let's join the conversation.

Wonderful turnout this evening. Thank you so much indeed for coming and braving the cold and

the icy Cambridge winter. It's a great delight to welcome you all here tonight to this the first

Veritas event of 2013. A brief word about Veritas. It's an organisation that exists to

reason dialogue between followers, well, followers of the Christian faith and followers of

other faiths or of no faith at all. It's organised in its history many wonderful exchanges

on the God debate and on topics of interest to those on both sides of that debate. And if you

would like to listen or watch some of those I urge you to have a look at the excellent resources

section on its website at veritas.org. As many of you will be aware there's been a specially

little evidence of reasoned dialogue in the public arena on these issues in recent years. A great

deal of rhetorical heat of course but not much in the way of crisp philosophical light. So the need

for that kind of dialogue is more urgent now than it ever has been before. And that's why we're so

fortunate to have with us tonight such a gifted exponent of Christianity's worldview and such a

gifted critic of that worldview. Our gifted exponent is Professor Keith Ward. Professor Ward has

held lectureships in logic at Glasgow in philosophy at St Andrews in philosophy of religion

at King's College London. He was fellow dean and director of studies here in Cambridge at Trinity
