Now my guest this week is Dr Janice Holden.

Dr Holden is a professor at the University of North Texas. For three years, she was president of the International Association for Near Death

Studies. She is co-editor of the Handbook of Near Death Experiences. Well, Jan, thank you very much

for coming onto the Past lives podcast and giving us

your time. You wrote that big book, the handbook of near-death experiences. Can you tell us about

that book? Yes. Well, at the time I was, that we were about to celebrate the, I believe it was

50th anniversary, or maybe it was the 40th anniversary.

Maybe it was the 30th.

It was the 30th anniversary.

I have to think back of the publication of Raymond Moody's book, Life After Life,

in which the phenomenon of near-death experiences, he developed the term

near-death experience, and that was the first time that it was used. The phenomenon had been

reported previously, even in refereed journal literature, but I think a sequence of circumstances built up to the recognition of this as

a thing when in the 20th century resuscitation technology advanced to the point that we were bringing

back a lot of people from the brink of death, you know, much more than very unprecedented compared

to history.
