This episode dates back to 2018 and my guest is Jim Bruton.

We talk about his near-death experience and his book, The In Between, A Trip of a Lifetime.

Hi, Jim, welcome to the past lives podcast.

First of all, just to start off, could you tell us about your background?

I was born in Key West.

It's almost like saying you were born in Disneyland.

You don't meet a lot of people born there.

My dad was in the Navy.

But in growing up, it was the very conservative South in the 1960s. And so I, you know, sort of raised in that environment. And yet I always felt different from that environment. I felt that, you know, how do I get out of here? Everybody's crazy. So I guess, you know, not really feeling

like I fed in, it was natural to engage in the expected escapism, especially that which young

people or, you know, kids engage in, you know, whether we play or we dream or whatever. And so

mine took several forms.

One, I would watch wildlife programs, and there was this very popular one called Wild Kingdom.

It came on every Sunday night, and I would watch it, and it was about these two filmmakers going around the world,

and heavily engaged in conservation efforts to help animals.

But, you know, there was travel, there was adventure, there was animals, it was on TV.

And I just thought, well, how do I do that for a living?
