we're showcasing a few programs from our archive, as usual, the music's been shortened for right

to reasons. This week, a recently rediscovered conversation with the artist David Hockney,

Roy Plumley cast him away in 1972.

are you a groupierist, man? Very. Yes. Could you endure isolation? Not really. No, I'd really hate it,

I think. Is music an important part of your life? Yes, I mean, I play it every day, I play it when

I work and I actually listen to it a lot. Yeah, I would think it's very, yes. When you say

you'll play record, you'll play an instrument. No, no, no, I don't know anything about music,

I just play record. What qualities have you looked for in selecting your eight records?

Well, most of them are just pieces of beautiful music. God, I consider beautiful music. I mean,

I think maybe there's one or two of them that were prompted by events or memories of

a place or a thing or a person, but most of them are simply just bits of music that I thought I'd

like to hear. What's the first one? And the first one is Helbetov and Fifth Symphony played on

the piano in the list version, which I actually think is quite amusing as well. When I first heard it,

which isn't too long ago, I kept laughing, which isn't usual for Beethoven, but I did enjoy it.

The second one is a piece of very satis called La Belle Exantrique that's just a very

a beautiful bit of piano music, I think. And I like satis music. I love this, all of this title is

rather ordinary. Some of these titles are rather terrific and very, very witty. And I kind of like
