1:00.1 | I'm going to turn 62 next week that I came of age in the 1960s, a time of enormous unrest in the United States. |
1:14.0 | We had several assassinations one after another it felt like during the 1960s we had riots in the streets. |
1:23.0 | And the level of anger in the country was intense. |
1:30.0 | You know, we as a country need to take a deep breath because if you are younger than I am, |
1:39.0 | you probably know almost nothing about went on in America in the 1960s. |
1:46.0 | And I should add by extension there was unrest, similar of nature in other parts of the world, |
1:54.0 | particularly in parts of Western Europe, like there is today. |
1:59.0 | And not being part of that era, it's like what was all that about? |
2:09.0 | And you go back through our history as a country. |
2:13.0 | There have been various times that the level of anger has led to irrational acts, violence, horrific things. |
2:26.0 | And we are in a time right now that our disagreements with each other, our differences are magnified by any of a number of reasons, |
2:40.0 | including social media, the relative anonymity of the internet, the crazy postings people do. |
2:52.0 | And we need to remember that among Americans that we don't agree with, they are still our fellow Americans, they are not our enemies. |
