Bigelow your host and reporter to the automotive news. On a recent cold and snowy night, I got back from a trip,

got into my car in a distant lot near Detroit Metro,

and nothing. The car wouldn't start, the battery was dead. As I sat there

waiting for AAA, I thought about the idea that this would no longer happen in an

EV era.

While it might get worse performance in the winter,

I thought that fundamentally an electric vehicle would have started

and that in an EV era,

there's no longer a role for your standard 12 volt battery.

Well, as it turns out, that's dead wrong.

My guest today is Mark Wallace, the CEO of Clarios, one of the largest battery companies in the world.

Claryos batteries are in one in three cars worldwide.

Mark is here too, among other things, set me straight.

There is in fact a really important role that low

voltage batteries play in the EV era. They're not going away at all. There's a

lot of new analytics that are important to low voltage batteries and networks,

and a lot of the same experimentation with new chemistries and recycling that's going on the high

voltage side is happening on the low voltage side. So Mark is here to tell us about that. Without further ado,
