All right, guys, we've got a special guest on the podcast today. Her name is Claire Morel. She's an author and public policy expert, and she is a fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center and the director of its technology in human flourishing project. So her work has actually been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Fox News,

The New York Post, National Review, the Federalist, and a bunch of other places. And she consults legislators on technology policy and has helped draft legislation to protect children online.

And so our discussion today was Senator at her book called The Tech Exit, a practical guide

to freeing kids and teens from smartphones and the discussion today really had a lot

to do with like okay there's a lot of confusion out there about what's going on with screens what's going

on with social media but most parents for the most part feel like well that's just kind of the way it is

and so we're just going to do our best and so in this discussion today we talk about you know how she got

into public policy but also what what's the deal with smartphones and children? Why screen time limits aren't working. Why parental controls that come with social media and different things, they're a myth that they basically don't do anything. They don't work. How social media exacerbates issues with predators seeking children online and then what families can do

if they need to kind of take a screen detox or different things like that. But there's a lot of

practical knowledge in here about, okay, this is what you think is the problem with the social media

and with the smartphones and with the things with your children. But it's actually way worse than what

you could think. And but she addresses a lot of the different objections that may come up about, like, well, if my kid doesn't have a smartphone, he'll be the only one, and that'll be terrible. Or, you know, my kid's not going to be able to develop your technological skills. He's not going to know how to use any of these things. Well, hey, there aren't any other families in our world that are doing this. We don't have alternatives. Hey, my kids got to have an app to get into the locker room at school. So how in the world is you not supposed to have a smartphone? So we look at a lot of those different things. And really toward the end, I would definitely stick around toward the end of the interview because we talk about schools. And we talked about getting screens out of school, specifically smartphones, and how even if your school has a
