of devastating civil war in Sudan, things are getting even worse. The situation is simply

horrifying. That's Martha Pobie speaking at UN headquarters in New York

this morning. She is the Assistant Secretary General for Africa at the United Nations.

Pobie said no part of Sudan is untouched by the violence. But the stories coming from thousands of

people fleeing from the city of Al-Fashar in North Darfur are the worst.

These include credible reports of mass killings in various locations and summary executions during house-to-house searches and as civilians have tried to flee the city.

Communications have been cut off.

The situation is chaotic.

In this context, it is difficult to estimate the number of civilians killed.

In the last few days, about 3,000 people displaced by war have arrived in the town of Tovila.

They traveled by foot 35 miles from El Fasher after the rapid support forces or RSF took over the city.
