John Kiriaku, former CIA officer, former senior investigative of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee,

former counterterrorism consultant for ABC News. John was responsible for the capture in Pakistan

in 2002, Abu Zubeida, who was then believed to be the third ranking official in Al-Qaeda.

In 2007, Kiriaku blew the whistle on the CIA's torture program,

telling ABC News that the CIA tortured prisoners, a torture was officially US government policy,

that the policy had been approved by then-president George W. Bush. He became the sixth whistle

blower indicted by the Obama administration under the Espionage Act. A law designated to punish

spies, he served 23 months in prison as a result of that revelation. In 2012, Kiriaku was honored

with the Joe A. Callaway Award for Civic Courage, an award given to individuals who quote advanced

truth and justice despite the personal risk it creates, and quote, and by the inclusion of his

portrait in the artist Robert Chetterley's series of Americans who tell the truth, which features

notable truth tellers throughout American history. He won the band's center, U.S. paper

stages first amendment award in 2015, the first blueprinted national whistle blowing prize for

bravery and integrity and public interest in 2016, and the Sam Adams Award for integrity intelligence

also in 2016. You are an incredibly prolific writer. I've spent a summer vacation in 2001

in maximum security prison in Puerto Rico, you know, for my litigation against the Navy for the

bombing of the A because yeah, but it was one of the greatest summers in my life because I didn't

have a cell phone. I didn't have to make decisions and I got to sit there and write. I assume some of
