Chuck Closterman showing up in a few minutes. Chuck's one of the few people ever I got in touch with out of the blue and asked to coffee.

This was seven years ago.

I had read, Killing Yourself to Live, I was trying to figure out if it was possible to make it into a movie. I mean, that was the

possible to make it into a movie. I mean that was the supposed reason for the meeting.

But really it was an excuse.

Reading that book had made me want to get to know him,

or rather reading sex death and cocoa puffs did,

only when killing yourself came out,

I saw the opening to do it.

Closterman has written some of my favorite essays ever.

I'm not sure he'd call them essays, by the way.

That sounds too formal to

institutionalized but one of those essays the importance of being hated

explained aspects of myself to me in a way that very few written pieces ever have I

want to talk to him about that one. Chuck's a

professional ethicist. He's the ethicist for the New York Times and he's considered

sort of a pop culture intellectual, which is another term like essay that I'm sure

he hates.
