Today we are going to cover the latter half of his second voyage to the Americas, which took place between 1493 and 1496.

Let us do a quick recap. Columbus had sailed from Spain in October of 1493.

He had returned to the Caribbean, found some new islands, including Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and then returned to Hispaniola.

There he would find his small fort, which he had built during his first voyage, in ruins,

and all 39 of his men dead killed by the local natives.

Columbus with 17 ships and 1,200 men selected a new location to build a city at a

harbor on the northern shore of Hispaniola, which he called La Isabella.
