Welcome to our daily rosary meditation. Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

2,400 years ago, the Greek philosopher Plato wrote an allegory about a group of prisoners who were confined in a cave from birth with no knowledge of the outside world.

They were chained facing a wall, unable to turn their heads, while a fire behind them gave off a faint light.

Occasionally, people would pass by the fire carrying objects that cast shadows on the wall.

So the prisoners named these illusions believing they were

seeing real things and not mere shadows. But suddenly one prisoner broke free and walks out into the light for the very first time.

At first the sunlight hurts his eyes and he finds his new environment disorienting. on the wall of the cave were mere illusions, he could hardly believe it, because he was so

accustomed to living in the dark, and he thought the shadows were real. But gradually,

his eyesight adjusts until he can see clearly, and finally he can even look at the sun

whose light is the source of everything that he's seen. The freedman then returns to the cave to share this amazing

discovery, but the other prisoners think that his journey has made him go mad,

that now he's actually blind, and they violently
