This workshop was originally given at TGC's 2018 West Coast Conference

in Fullerton, California. I figured out I wanted to be a professor before I figured out I wanted to be a professor before I figured

out what I wanted to teach.

It's a weird experience. I was actually I did a Bible

bachelor's degree and then I was doing an MA in New Testament and I was told very

clearly whatever you do don't do a PhD in New Testament and that was the plan and my dean at the time said if you

want a job don't do it and I thought well I want a job so I don't know what to do.

What was interesting is I started studying spiritual formation and that led me to theology.

I might have the only person that has the story, but it was actually in studying Christian spirituality

where I discovered that for the entire tradition until the

Enlightenment theology and spirituality were one thing not to, that you could not talk
