What gives us confidence that we won't be consumed at the judgment?

Verse 27, Hebrew 9,

in as much as it is appointed for men to die. Now this is a rich, rich sentence.

God is so merciful to talk to us this way.

There are two things I want you to see in those words.

The first is, appointed to die.

There's an appointment that we have with death.

Everybody, a lot of young people in this room, you're all going to die, you know that.

And you're going to die older young by appointment.

So my question is, who made the appointment?

I didn't sign up. I don't sign up for appointments like that. It's bad enough that I got to call the dentist in a few days. I don't want to go to the dentist. I don't like to go to the dentist.

But that's an appointment. I will muster the willpower to make. I don't like taking my

car to the shop. It always comes out broken. I don't like to make those appointments, but I make them.

But here's one I'm not signing up for.

I didn't make this appointment with death. So who made it? God made it. Let's unpack that for a minute.

You need to feel that, you need to feel that. You need to be glad about that.

Adam and Eve sinned. And when they sinned, they fell from their precious position in sin and death.

Here's the way Paul puts it in Romans 512.

Through one man, sin entered the world and death through sin, so death spread to all men
