The theology of the body book and teachings evolved from five years of homilies that Pope St. John Paul II delivered at his Wednesday general audiences at the Vatican.

This talk is the second of four that were presented to a group of young adults.

It is intended to serve as an introduction to the theology of the body.

It was not so.

Let's remind ourselves what we're trying to do.

I'm trying as best we can to give something like a handshake introduction to the Pope's theology of the body.

With the hope that some of you will express an interest to want

to get into something like a more regimented Theology of the Body study group.

This happens at a number of parishes throughout the country.

I was involved with some folks in Canada who have started one in their parish, some folks

out east I know in Washington, D.C. who've been doing it.

And it's just a collection of couples, oftentimes some singles, too, of all different ages

and different realms of experience who can bring different things to the table to try to reflect

upon what it is that the Pope reflects upon as he dives into scripture.

At times, and perhaps especially tonight, out of the four different presentations in this handshake,
