In the immediate aftermath of Donald Trump's re-election, most Democrats occupied themselves with

especially agonized versions of the traditional post-election defeat rituals.

The weeping, the wailing, the gnashing of teeth, the rending of garments, the sackcloth

and ashes.

Others dove headlong into mournful post-mortems of the party's tactical and strategic errors, its demographic weaknesses,

or most of all, its failure, especially but not exclusively in the presidential race,

to craft a message that was clearer and more compelling than Trump's.
