And while I'm not sure I agree with those who say we all died in 2012,

I will say it wouldn't have been a bad place to pause the

timeline. Even better would have been somewhere in the late 90s. Just before the technocracy

got to work on infecting our every waking moment with manipulative devices that projected

never-ending scroll of attention-grabbing nonsense, overhyped headlines, anger-inducing algorithms,

and a firehose of infinite, uneducated opinions

we didn't realize we were so lucky to live without.

It felt like there was just a bit more cultural glue-holding us together back then.

And from its first episode on September 10, 1993, the X-Files' 13-year run was a big part

of what made that decade so interesting.

It wasn't the only show,

or even the first, to fold in nearly every theme of the conspiratorial counterculture,

but few weaved a tapestry so rich that apparently even the CIA started to wonder where some
