Hello, it's Katie Halper from Useful Idiots. Before getting into today's episode,

0:04.3

I want to mention that our interview with the journalist Chris Hedges had so much good stuff in it that we've decided to split it into two parts.

0:12.3

So we'll be releasing part two of our interview next week. Thanks so much.

0:17.6

Alright, welcome to Useful Idiots. I'm Matt Taiyibi. And I'm Katie Halper. And we have a great show coming up for you. We have a Pulitzer Prize winning reporter and a personal hero of mine, Chris Hedges, is going to be on. Yeah. Great guest. Great guest. Very excited to be talking to him. He was a little less excited. I mean, I don't know why you're saying that. I thought I saw some glimmer in his eyes. I feel like he was very happy to be here. He really likes you.

0:47.6

It was a great interview. So tune in. And right now it's as our cameraman read would say it's content time. It's content time. Yeah. But first we have some pre-contents. We do. We have some pre-contents. Which can carry diseases, by the way. And that is that we are doing a live stream debate commentary next week. Right. And so just live tweeting. No, we're actually going to be on camera. We're going to drink on camera. We're going to figure out some way to do it. So follow us on Twitter. We'll let you know exactly where and when to be. But basically next Tuesday. The show is going to be Tuesday instead of Thursday next week.

1:17.2

So it is that time of the week where we do content time and we do for food groups. Right. So it's Republican, so Democrat, so isn't that horrible? Isn't that weird? Yes. That's me first. Right. Republican. So I kind of cheated a little bit this week. I mean, Canadian Republicans count basically needing Republicans. What are they? Like the conservative party technically. So they got a big election coming up October 21st between Trudeau and Andrew Sheer who is the conservative party candidate.

1:46.6

And the amazing development last week was that it turned out that Sheer is an American. Well, which is worse. Sheer being an American or Justin Trudeau doing what is it face? It's not blackface. What was he pretending to be? Was it a really?

2:01.1

Yeah. Okay. So it's trying to be a lot in face. So they're billing this now as the American versus Aladdin. And Sheer had previously criticized other people who had not renounced their dual citizenship with the United States.

2:14.2

What are the odds? And so there's actually there are some great Gachi moments where where reporters are cornering him. And he really lards up his Canadian accent in response to being accused of being an American, which it's pretty funny.

2:28.4

How do you explain your criticism of Michelle Johns dual citizenship when you hold dual citizenship? I asked a question at the time about about the fact that she held it asking my constituents what they felt about that.

2:40.3

So this was this is a big scandal in Canada. It's like the ultimate hypocrisy. And of course he's striking back by go by doubling down on the whole blackface Aladdin theme with with Trudeau.

2:50.2

So Canadians are essentially as shallow and stupid as we are. Right. Yeah. Which is really I think it's great news for them. One last thing about that, which was really interesting that Toronto star did an outraged outrage editorial about Sheer's Sheer turning out to not be. He is Canadian, but he's also a citizen of another country.

3:08.5

They said having it's not like having dual feet. They said it's not like having dual feet. Dual citizenship. It's not like having dual feet.

3:16.5

It's like having tried five feet. What does that even mean? I'm not even sure, but it was such a weird thing to say. Is that like is there some dual foot lot? Is that like two left feet? Are they just mean like?

3:28.5

Well, I think ideas you're allowed to have two feet, but you can't have weird. What a weird citizen. Is that maybe it's a Canadian turn of phrase?

3:36.5

Maybe. Yeah, I don't know. The Canadians are. They're a weird people. They're excellent people, but they're very strange. Yeah. Okay. So that's I mean, that's that's basically a Republican suck story. He's over to party and that's coming up in the 21st. We should find out. Yeah. We'll have both Colin. So we got in Democrats.

3:51.5

We have Speaker Pelosi who said that she is supporting representative Quayar, who is facing a primary challenge from Cisneros. So this is a congressional race in Texas. And you have in NRA donation accepting anti choice.

4:08.5

Basically blue dog Trump ally Democrat run and he's being challenged by a justice Democrats candidate who's a young Latina woman. He's an older Latino man. There's nothing wrong with being Latino or older, but just so people know the context because a really weird big narratives that people use when they go against the justice stems is that they're attacking and targeting black members of Congress. And like they're not like they're they have as many. In fact, one of the people they're primary is a white person.

4:37.5

And they're primary him with the black person. Not that this I mean, it's just like they're not even lying well. The centers who are attacking them. But do you want to hear this? It's kind of cool. Okay, let me just play this.

4:49.5

Well, you have a friendly incumbent rule heading into this election cycle so that if any incumbent Democrat in your house is challenged in a primary that you will default to endorsing the incumbent.

5:00.5

That's absolutely that is the easiest question you can ask. Henry Klayer was in the audience congressman Klayer from the radio who is here and as a challenger in the primary you are Henry Klayer.

5:11.5

Absolutely, absolutely. I'm very, very proud of him. He's working the Congress and I'm proud to support him.
