| 0:00.0 | Welcome back to another edition of the Ballas and Skeen Show. That's the Ballas and Skeen show here at the Wolverine.com. And with me, Doug Skeen, Michigan's five-time Big Ten champion, former All-Big Ten offensive linemen, played for Bill Parcells at New England. The guy knows what he's talking about. So this is the go-to guy. When I talk about offensive line play, and I want to know what's real, what's not, I go to Doug Skeen. And Doug, it's funny. After the game on Saturday night, Michigan beats New Mexico, 34 to 17. Not aesthetically pleasing enough for some people, but at the same time, that could have easily been a 41 to 10 game if a couple of things go better. you know, ifs and buts, I get it, but some bad breaks on one drive there. |
| 0:38.7 | Overall, have easily been a 41 to 10 game if a couple things go better you know ifs and butts i get it but but some bad breaks on one drive there overall i'm looking at this offense and the first thing i've got to |
| 0:44.0 | say is you look at brys underwood and holy hell uh this is the most talented quarterback i've ever |
| 0:50.2 | seen at michigan in terms of pure talent arm talent the ability to throw run, everything else. This guy is the real deal. I'm going to ask you about him in a minute. But more than anything, I was trying to watch the offensive line play because you have made me view this game in a different prism when it comes to football. It makes it a little less enjoyable for me because I'm sitting there and trying to watch, you know, did this guy pull up, pick up the stunt and things like that, I'll be honest. But overall, when I went back and watched it, the first time when I'm watching it, I'm thinking these guys, okay, you know, they're playing with a little more violence and a little more intent. There were a few things to clean up. But then when I went back |
| 1:27.7 | and watched it a little bit, I thought, okay, these guys are really coming off the ball harder, |
| 1:31.1 | playing with more of a purpose. I was a little bit more impressed the second time. Your overall |
| 1:35.1 | thoughts on the offensive line play against New Mexico. So my overall grade, |
| 1:39.0 | and is going back to the normal policy ballast in September, we're not going to get too excited, |
| 1:46.0 | too high or too low about anything after week one. |
| 1:48.7 | So that rule still is in play. |
| 1:50.5 | But after watching the game a couple times |
| 1:54.0 | and watching the offensive line, |
| 1:56.1 | my overall evaluation is pretty good. |
| 1:59.4 | You know, I like to keep the non-traditional stats of tackles for loss, |
| 2:04.8 | hits on the quarterback, pressures, sacks, and first down yardage throughout the whole game. |
| 2:10.7 | And just kind of make some notes. I think we only had three or four pressures in that whole |
| 2:15.5 | game. Give up two sacks. One of them, I'm not sure, was on the offensive line. |
| 2:19.6 | And maybe somebody touched the quarterback a couple times. |
| 2:22.8 | So that alone is a pretty good start. |
| 2:25.5 | But overall, the eyeball test and just watching these guys come off the line. |
| 2:30.1 | And when the ball passes by, how are they, how are they continuing their block? |
| 2:36.0 | Are they going to let go and just watch football? |
... |
