I received several emails and WeChat messages from listeners urging me to introduce the life of Yuan Longping.

So I thought, well, not everyone's heard of him, so this would be a timely intro to his life and achievements.

Since his passing a little more than a week ago, so many obituaries have been written and they've been a great outpouring of praise for what this man did.

Not only for China, but for dozens of countries around the world.

If you live in my world, one that's filled with China newsletters, news sites, and well, non-stop China all day long,

Yuan Longping's life and beneficence to his country and to humankind has been thoroughly covered.

But just in case some of you didn't catch the news and weren't aware of his contributions as an agronomist and wanted to put out this short episode,

his life and accomplishments might not be as well known around the world as they are in his home country of China.

But I can tell you, he is lionized in the PRC for what he did to utilize his expertise as an agronomist to alleviate hunger.

And agronomist is someone expert in the science of soil management and crop production.
