Hey friend, it's Kristen. Grab your scriptures and let's dive into Exodus 1, verses 15 through 17.

So Jacob's family moved to Egypt at the Lord's command, and they grew large enough that

the new Pharaoh of Egypt

was getting nervous that they were going to completely overthrow his kingdom. And so the

Pharaoh made Jacob's descendants, the Israelites, his slaves. Surely, hard labor would keep them

under control. But the Israelites still seem to grow in strength and number. Trying to maintain

control over his slaves, quote,

the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shifra and the name

of the other, Pua. And he said, when you do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, if it be a

son, then you shall kill him. So Pharaoh planned to deal with the growing Israelite population by having the

midwives kill all of the newborn boys. But they refused. Those brave women, Shifra and Pua,

feared God and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

Shifra and Pua knew that they risked the king's anger and likely death for

disobeying him. They risked everything. But they recognized an even greater king, a heavenly

king, and chose him over everything else. We should do the same, no matter what the consequences.

So the takeaway of the day in five words or less is, choose God over
