It's four minutes after ten, and I'm going to try and knit some stuff together, and it is almost certainly not going to work, so bear with me.

I'm feeling, we're going to be talking about Christianity a little later in the program, and during that news bulletin there, I had an attack of what can only really be described as Catholic guilt, or possibly a sort of attack of the Protestant work ethic, which would be odd given that I wasn't

raised as a Protestant. But I think we should talk about China. And I didn't put it in front of

you first up this morning because it feels like quite hard work. And if I'm really honest,

because I don't know as much about it as I should, I'm familiar with the totalitarian nature of the Chinese government.

I am familiar and disgusted by the treatment of Uyghur Muslims.

And I am conscious of threats and fears that their surveilling or surveillance of of foreign countries in this context, most notably

ours, is pretty close to the real life depiction of the dystopias that we all read about when we

were growing up. But when it comes to the question of whether or not James Cleverly should be

cozying up to China,

I'm not really sure what to think.

I think that I'll tell you what my problem is.

I think my problem is that I want to reach for the argument that,

well, we don't live in an ideal world. But then I realize that the more you reach for the argument that, well, we don't live in an ideal world.

But then I realise that the more you reach for that argument,

the less likely it is you will ever move towards a better world.

So the other story in the news today, I don't know if you've seen it,

there's a fellow in Saudi Arabia who is facing execution for his activity on social media.

I think that there's one member of the Saudi Arabian royal family who's quite a big

shareholder in Twitter or what used to be called Twitter.

And it is his activity on that platform in part that has prompted his sentence.

There's something so completely impenetrable about that scenario. So it's so cyclical,
