best-selling electric car brand, is stepping up its push into Europe. The Chinese manufacturer plans to start building

battery powered cars in Hungary in the second quarter of 26 after selling more than 4.27 million

vehicles worldwide last year. Construction of BYD's new plants in southern Hungary is due to finish

before the end of the year, with production scheduled to begin

in 26. It will sit alongside BYD's existing Hungarian site, which already assembles buses,

and a new factory in Turkey, which is also planned to open in 2026. The announcement came in

Barcelona at the launch of two new versions of BYD's Ato 2, a plug-in hybrid DMI and the fully electric comfort model.

Stella Lee, BYD's executive vice president, described the Hungary plant as part of an aggressive European growth strategy.

She said the company has grown by around 500% this year in the United

Kingdom, Spain and Germany, and by more than 1,000% in Italy. Staying with BYD, and it's quietly phasing

out its trademark rotating touch screens in Europe, starting with that new at O2 crossover.

The move marks a shift in priorities. In-car software and

app ecosystems now matter more than eye-catching hardware. Rotating central displays were a central

selling point when BYD entered Europe. The 90-degree mechanism let driver switch between
