Two boys disappear in the woods.

Fayetteville Observer says four-year-old Tristan Buddy Myers is the little boy who vanished without a trace.

Somewhere, investigators believe Buddy is out there.

It's what they've got to believe, to do otherwise, they say,

would be to give up on finding the little boy with a tussled blonde hair.

Buddy had disappeared from his rural home in Roseborough on October 5, 2000. He was four years

old. It was believed he'd slipped out of his great-a-unct-a-uncle's house on a cold October day,

taking two of the family dogs with him, then simply vanished. Buddy had had an unsettled upbringing.

Born to a 15-year-old mother, she'd handed him over to his grandparents to raise. His grandfather had accidentally reversed a car onto him,

and Buddy had also suffered burns and a broken leg. According to the Chicago Tribune,

at age four, the boy killed the family dog in the bathtub.

What hospital tests showed, he exhibited signs being emotionally underdeveloped.

Then his grandmother became seriously ill, and he was sent to live with his great-aunt and uncle.

But he had walked away from the farm twice before, causing the family to put a buzzer on the back door, but unfortunately there wasn't a buzzer on the front door.

On the afternoon that Buddy left the house this time, his aunt called 911 as soon as she noticed he was missing.

And within a short while, voluntary searches were combing the dense woods for him, and the two dogs that had also

disappeared, an old Chihuahua and a Doverman puppy. The search expanded outwards to farmland

and ponds, Buddy couldn't swim, and there were fears that he'd fallen into water and drowned.

Search dogs did lead to one pond, but it was drained and Buddy wasn't in

there. Then, five days after his disappearance, the Chihuahua returned home, and a week later,

the Doberman puppy reappeared too. Cadaver dogs searched everywhere, but they couldn't find Buddy.

Psychics arrived, flyers were distributed. The media reported daily and tips came flooding in, but none led to finding Buddy.
