A couple of things are hanging over the process right now.

First and foremost is clearly the COVID-19 pandemic,

which is slowing everything down,

but it's also putting more and more pressure

on what the chiefs have to get done

with their ace quarterback Patrick Mahomes in order to move forward

past this season. Now they exercise the fifth year option that's perfunctory at best because they pretty much have to do that.

Now it comes down to try to arrange a long-term contract

without knowing what the cap number is going to be.

That is a challenge.
