Just last month, parts of the suburban Chicago area were hit by a tornado about a third of a mile wide.

Worst hit among them was the heavily populated suburb of Naperville.

The entire ordeal happened so fast Sunday night right before midnight.

And so we climbed under the stairs and I almost jumped on top of my daughter because I thought

the windows were going to blow out of the house.

According to news reports, it was the most severe tornado to hit our area since 2015.

We have so many crews of contracted people to come in and help clean and pick up and remove all the debris.

And we still have lines that are down. We have power outages.

By the time last month's Twister had done its damage, several people had been hospitalized

and more than 200 homes had been impacted.

It finally gave way in Burr Ridge, a suburb less than 8 miles from the Chicago city limits.

So why was Chicago spared?

Is there truth to the notion that cities like Chicago are immune from these destructive funnel clouds?

Those are questions we first answer a few years ago with reporter Chloe Prasinos after the last

big tornado.

This week, we're revisiting the urban legends about twisters.

And we'll talk with survivors of the area's most destructive twister ever, one that

happened more than 50 years ago.
