On this episode I chat with a little girl, as well as Leslie Lee, Roger Waters of Pink

Floyd and Stephen Donziger.

Stephen Donziger is a human rights lawyer who helped Ecuador's Amazon win a historic

9.5 billion dollar judgment against Chevron for the deliberate dumping of billions of

gallons of cancer-causing oil waste onto indigenous ancestral lands.

Chevron responded to this record-breaking settlement by going after Donziger using at

least 60 law firms and 2,000 lawyers.

Donziger appealed an unprecedented order from trial judge Louis A. Kaplan, who by the

way is a former tobacco industry lawyer, that Donziger turned over his computer and

phone for review by Chevron lawyers.

This violates attorney-client privilege.

As his appeal of this order was pending, Judge Kaplan charged him with criminal contempt.

The federal prosecutor Manhattan rejected the case, but Judge Kaplan then appointed

the Chevron law firm Seward and Kissel to prosecute Donziger.

The Seward firm found to disclose until 7 months into the case that Chevron is a client

of theirs, and Stephen has been kept under house arrest without trial for over 650 days.

What's interesting is that he's been under house arrest for more than six times longer

than the longest sentence ever imposed in New York on a lawyer convicted of contempt.

The judge appointed by Kaplan to preside over this case is part of the Federalist Society.

He's nine Donziger jury.
