This week, Jeddy Gow catches up with FIA Deputy Race Director Claire Dubeleman to talk

all about her rise up through the ranks and how to get more women in jobs at the top

level in Formula One and beyond. So Claire, thank you for joining us on a check and flag extra.

It's lovely to talk to you and it's lovely to talk to another woman

because we don't get the chance to sit down with another woman that often.

Just tell me a little bit about what you do, what your role is.

Well, first of all, thank you so much for having me.

Indeed, it's a rare occasion, so we should celebrate it on all matters.

The role that I have for the FIA is that I'm the deputy race director in race control for Formula One,

which means I am basically the understudy for the Formula One race director, Ruiz.

And basically the way that you can see that is that he takes all the executive decisions

and I actually execute them.

So if he says safety car, I do safety car.

I speak to Berndt on the radio, I send him on the racetrack.

I give him instructions on whether he needs to take a fast pace or whether we actually want

him to slow down to get at a pack.

I give him all the relevant information concerning the incident if he can expect debris on the

racetrack which side of the racetrack he needs to stay on.

Obviously that's mutual so he also feeds back to us and base control to me in particular what the condition of
